Project COALESCE

In January 2021, a new International project COALESCE was launched, led by the Mediterranean Institute of Gender Studies (MIGS) in cooperation with the European Network of Migrant Women Klaipeda Social and Psychological Support Center, Immigrant Council of Ireland , Caritas Cyprus-,οινωνία, Cyprus Refugee Council , IROKO OnlusMARTA. Project will seek to provide psychosocial, legal and economic support and assistance to third-country women and girls who are victims of trafficking in human beings and to develop synergies and complementarities by facilitating the identification of needs, assistance and support, and to improve international cooperation between professionals and practitioners.

Trafficking in human beings, a major problem showing no signs of decline, remains a major threat in the European Union (EU), while trafficking in women and girls for sexual exploitation is the most common form of exploitation (Europol, 2018). Affected women make up 77 %, sexual exploitation accounts for 65% of all reported trafficking offenses (based on EU statistics, excluding UK data, EC Progress Report, 2018). The available statistics call for special attention to be paid to trafficking in women and sexual exploitation.

The project is funded by: AMIF Fund
